Station(Client)Modes
1. EtherStationMode
When the Horizonis configured in the EtherStation mode and attachedto a single Ethernet Device,the Horizon will
emulatean802.11wirelesscardinfunctionalityforcommunicationasamobileclient.TheHorizonwi
llseamlessroam
undertheradiocanopyofAccessPointsandcanprovidegreatlyincreasedrangeoveraWirelessLANCardformobile
Ethernetdevicessuchasvehicles,forklifts,cranes,etc(Figures2‐4).
2. StationRouterMode
TheStationRoutermodewillalsofunctionsasamobileclient,si
milartoEtherStation,butwillallowmultipleEthernet
devicestobeconnectedtoasi ngle Ho ri z o n (Figure4).TheHorizonwillfunctionasarouterbetweenthewirelessclient
modeandthewiredEthernetdevicesconnectedtotheEthernetport.Simila rinconfigurationtotheAccessPointRouter
mode,thew
irelessandwiredEthernetnetworkswillneedtobeonseparatesubnets.Tocommunicatefromwireless
networktodevices onthewi redStationRouternetwork,aseparaterouter(connectedtotheEthernetsi de oftheAccess
Point)isrequired.ThismodewouldbeusedwheremultipleEthernetdeviceswillbeconnectedtoasi
ngleHorizonina
mobile client application and theconnected Ethernetdevices willneed tobe accessible fromthe Access Point’s LAN
network.
3. StationMasqueradeMode
TheStationMasquerademodeisanothercase multipledeviceswillbeconnectedtoasingleESTeeminamobileorc
lient
application.However,unliketheStationRoutermode,theStationMasqueradewillconsolidateallconnectedEthernet
devicestoasingleIPaddressonthenetwork.ThedevicesconnectedtotheStationMasqueradewillbeabletoaccess
information from both the wirelessand wired LAN, butwill be inaccessible the other way s
imilar in application to a
firewall.ThismodewouldbeusedwheremultipleEthernetdeviceswillbeconnectedtoasingleHorizoninamobile
applicationandtheIPaddressesforeachdevicewillbehiddenfromtheLANconnectedtotheAP.SeeFigure4.
