BIG 101x
Version: 2010/12/01 49
3.7 Menu item „SNMP“
The submenu item „SNMP“ allows the user to configure the SNMP-support and the transmis-
sion of SNMP-Traps (e.g. status changes such as linkUp, linkDown and alarms) to an SNMP-
Manager (Trap Host). By ticking the checkbox „SNMP enable“ it is possible to generally al-
low remote access to the BIG 101x via SNMPv2-protocol, or to have it disabled for test pur-
poses. Please note that after disabling this checkbox the SNMP-Manager has no access to
the device any more!
The option RO (Read Only) Community Name allows the user in case of need to change the
default password for Read access, while the option RW (Read/ Write) Community Name of-
fers to modify the default password for write operations.
For better identification of the individual BIG 101x-devices, the field MIB-II sysLocation
allows the user to enter the current location of the device.
Figure 19: SNMP-settings
When SNMP-Traps (Default: Off) are configured manually, it is necessary to put a tick in the
checkbox „Enable SNMP-Traps”. The IP-address shall be entered in the field „Trap-Receiver
IP-address“, whereas the Trap-Receiver Port has to be filled with the used UDP-port of the
Trap-destination (SNMP Manager/ Trap Host). Messages will then be transmitted to the Trap-
Host with the password that has been indicated as Trap Community Name.
By selecting the option „Apply“ (putting a tick) and „Save settings“ the settings that have
been made will be saved in the device.
