Security Options for RoboEngine
RoboEngine functions within a network environment to provide Web services.
There are two different types of users RoboEngine must manage when
connected to the network:
n Users who view content
n Authors who publish content and view reports
RoboEngine is 100% compatible with all authentication and encryption services
implemented by Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 and 5.0. In
addition to IIS security options, you can use permission settings to establish a
more secure network environment. Permissions are access privileges such as
read, write, and execute associated with a file or directory. Depending on the
operating system, each file may have different permissions for different kinds of
access and different users or groups of users.
Setting permissions
Outlined below is one possible security model for an engine. Your needs may be
different depending on the design of your individual network and the hardware
you are using. The model below is based on creating groups and assigning
permissions. The model is appropriate for users of Windows NT Server that
have followed the Microsoft recommended procedures to lock down their
machine. (For details about locking down machines, see the Microsoft security
page at www.microsoft.com/ntserver/techresources/security/default.asp.)
