Chapter 4 Managing Engines

About the ODBC Administrator
If you purchased the RoboEngine Connectivity Pack, you can use a Microsoft
SQL Server or Oracle 8.0 or higher database for your engine. (You'll need a
system DSN before using a SQL or Oracle database.)
Microsoft's Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) API allows the engine to
connect to any database without needing to use database specific functions.
The ODBC Administrator is used to create an ODBC data source. When you
create a data source, a wizard or other dialog provided by the database
manufacturer prompts you for all information needed to specify your database.
The ODBC Administrator can be launched right from the Configuration Manager.
To run the ODBC Administrator from the Configuration Manager:
1 Open the Configuration Manger. (On the computer where you installed
RoboEngine, double-click the Configuration Manager icon on the
desktop.
2 Open the engine.
3 Select the Database panel.
4 Click ODBC Administrator.
Note: When creating an ODBC data source for an engine, there are a few
things to keep in mind:
§ Your engine will not be logged in to a user account, so you cannot
use a user data source. When you start the ODBC Administrator,
be sure to go to the System DSN tab to create your data source.
§ For the same reason, even if your database supports using NT
authentication for users, you cannot use that method. Set the
data source to use a user name and password instead.
§ Be sure the correct database is selected. Some database servers
allow you to have database groups, in which case you should be
sure that the specific database that contains your data is
specified.
