Including global documents in your project
You can include existing documents not referenced in your project in the
natural language search option. The method described below enables you to
manually place the document in a special folder on the engine. The document
content is then scanned directly from the engine. This method is particularly
appropriate for legacy documents that do not change frequently, but that you
want to make available to your users.
Another advantage is that the documents are scanned faster because they are
located right on the engine.
To add content by publishing documents directly to the engine:
1 Identify an existing document or create new content in Microsoft Word,
Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, or Adobe PDF.
2 Open Windows Explorer on the computer where RoboEngine is installed.
3 Browse to the C:\Program Files\RoboEngine\Servers\1\Documents
directory.
4 Copy your existing or new document to this folder.
Note: Files placed in the Documents folder are not associated with any specific
project, but are considered global to all projects.
Including external documents in your project
You can add existing documents to your project so users can search the content
through the natural language search option. Use one of the linking methods
described below for a document located on a different engine than your project.
These methods are also appropriate if someone else controls the process of
updating the document.
The document is linked through the table of contents or a topic using the
Hypertext (HTTP), File Transfer (FTP), or network file (FILE) protocols.
Following are explanations of each protocol:
n Hypertext (HTTP): These documents are served from any standard Web
server. The server and end users need anonymous access to these
resources, which is standard for Web servers. The hypertext (HTTP)
protocol looks like this:
http://someserver.com/SomeDocument.doc
