3‐3‐1Beforeyoustart‐SuggestionsfordecidinganIPaddresstobeusedwiththis
broadbandrouter
BeforeallcomputersusingwiredEthernetconnection
(i.e.thosecomputersconnecttothis
router’sLANport1to4byEthernetcable)orwirelessconnectioncancommunicatewith
eachotherandaccessinternet,theymusthaveavalidIPaddress.
TherearetwowaystoassignIPaddressestocomputers:staticIPaddress(settheIP
address
foreverycomputermanually),anddynamicIPaddress(IPaddressofcomputers
willbeassignedbyrouterautomatically.It’srecommendedformostofcomputerstouse
dynamicIPaddress,itwillsavealotoftimeonsettingIPaddressesforeverycomputer,
especiallywhentherearealotof
computersinyournetwork;forserversandnetwork
deviceswhichwillprovideservicestoothercomputerandusersthatcomefromInternet,
staticIPaddressshouldbeused,soothercomputescanlocatetheserver.
Thisbroadbandrouterhasabuilt‐inDHCP(DynamicHostConfigurationProtocol)server,
andcanhelp
youtoassignIPaddressestoyourclientcomputers.Almostallnetwork
computers/devicesmanufacturedafteryear1995arecompatiblewithDHCP,andyoucan
letthisbroadbandroutertoassigntheIPaddresstoclientcomputers/devicesforyou.
