4.2 Electrical connection
• Make sure that the local main voltage supply corresponds to the information given on the type
plate on the front panel of the espresso machine.
• Plug the machine into a grounded socket only and do not leave it unattended.
• Do not roll or bend the power cord.
• Do not use an extension cord/ do not use a multiple socket.
5 FIRST USE
5.1 First use
Read the instruction manual carefully prior to operating the machine.
Prior to starting the machine, check if:
• the steam and hot water valves are closed.
• the machine is switched off. (Power switch in the vertical position.)
• the power cord is disconnected.
• the drip tray is inserted accurately.
Now you can start up your machine:
Machine in use with water tank
1 Lift the cup warming tray.
2 Take out the water tank and rinse it thoroughly.
3 Fill the water tank with fresh water deficient in lime, place it back into the water tank guides and replace the cup
warming tray.
4 Plug the machine into an electrical outlet. Position the brew lever upwards. Turn the on/off switch to position
‘1’ in order to heat up the coffee boiler. Now the green control lamp will come on. To engage the steam boiler,
turn the switch to position ‘2’. Now the orange control lamp will light up as well.
5 As soon as water is released through the brew group, position the brew lever back downward. The coffee boiler
is now filled with water.
Since much water is used for the initial filling of the boilers, the water tank has to then be refilled with water.
6 As soon as the steam boiler is filled with water, the pump will turn silent and the PID-display will show the
current temperature of both boilers (reg. item 3.2). When the fresh water in the water tank drops to a certain
level, the machine shuts down and the PID-display turns off. You now have to refill fresh water. The machine
automatically heats up again. Because a large amount of water is required for the first filling of the boiler, the
water tank has to be refilled with fresh water.
7 Please wait until the boiler pressure gauge indicates a value of about 1.0 – 1.25 bars.
8 Manual boiler venting is not necessary because the Controvento contains a professional Anti-Vacuum valve,
which vents the boiler during the heat-up phase. This venting procedure is done by way of the brew group,
directly into the drip tray. Caution, steam forms!
9 The machine is now operational. To always have pre-heated cups, place them on the cup warming tray.
The CONTROVENTO has a fuse to prevent the machine from overfilling.
It is possible that the machine does not heat up when using it for the first time or when dispensing
large quantities of water through the hot water valve. In this case please switch the machine off and
on again.
