Accessing your ﬁles on the PC

Using a USB ﬂash drive

After logging into the PC, plug your USB ﬂash drive

into a USB port on the PC. A message will appear

stating that ‘Your device is ready to use’.

You may then get a pop-up box which will give you a

few options. You will need to select the option ‘Open

folder to view ﬁles’.

Removing your USB ﬂash drive

To remove the ﬂash drive, you must eject the device

ﬁrst. Click on the USB icon in the bottom right hand

corner of your screen.

However if the USB icon is hidden you will need to

select the arrow to show hidden icons.

The following box will pop up.

Select the USB icon and a list of removable storage

devices will be displayed.

Select the storage device you wish to eject. A

message will appear stating ‘device can now be

safely removed from the computer’.

Note: Encrypted USB ﬂash drives will not work on

Desktop@UCL.

Accessing your network ‘Home’ directory

To access ﬁles in your Home directory simply click on

the ‘My Documents’ shortcut on the desktop.
