Accessing your files on the PC
Using a USB flash drive
After logging into the PC, plug your USB flash drive
into a USB port on the PC. A message will appear
stating that ‘Your device is ready to use’.
You may then get a pop-up box which will give you a
few options. You will need to select the option ‘Open
folder to view files’.
Removing your USB flash drive
To remove the flash drive, you must eject the device
first. Click on the USB icon in the bottom right hand
corner of your screen.
However if the USB icon is hidden you will need to
select the arrow to show hidden icons.
The following box will pop up.
Select the USB icon and a list of removable storage
devices will be displayed.
Select the storage device you wish to eject. A
message will appear stating ‘device can now be
safely removed from the computer’.
Note: Encrypted USB flash drives will not work on
Desktop@UCL.
Accessing your network ‘Home’ directory
To access files in your Home directory simply click on
the ‘My Documents’ shortcut on the desktop.
