5.13 TROUBLESHOOTING

Hard to feed chipper
requires excessive

Dull chipper blades Sharpen blades
Improper blade clearance Adjust clearance
Obstructed discharge Use branch or similar object to clear discharge
Material from chipper
wraps around the
rotor shaft
Stringy, green material bypasses

Rotate branch or material when feeding
to cut completely
Improper blade clearance Adjust clearance
Chipper blades to anvil clearance
is incorrect
Set chipper blade to anvil clearance to
recommended distance (1/16” to 1/8”)
Dull chipper blades Sharpen or replace blades
Excessive vibration
while running
Drive system vibration
Check drive belts and pulleys for bad or worn areas.
Check PTO driveline for wear.
Rotor out of balance
Inspect rotor for broken or missing chipper blades.
Repair if needed. Check rotor to see if rotor is
assembled correctly.
Chipper blade to anvil
clearance is incorrect
Set chipper blade to anvil clearance to
recommended distance (1/16” to 1/8”)
Rotor will not turn
Drive belt too loose or broken Adjust or replace
Obstructed discharge Use branch or similar object to clear discharge
Plugged rotor Clear rotor
Excessive belt wear
Not using correct belt Contact authorized dealer to order belts
Pulley damaged or worn Replace pulley
Pulley not in alignment Align pulley with straight edge
Belt tension too loose Tighten belt or replace
Plugged discharge tube
Engine speed too slow Increase engine speed
