Tools required: T-Wrench, 4 & 5 mm Hex Wrench, Wood or
plastic scraper
Parts Required: As needed: Mufer gasket
1. Remove air cleaner cover and remove spark plug
lead.
2. Remove guide bar and saw chain. See "Guide Bar
and Saw Chain Installation/Removal."
3. Remove mufer support bracket (A).
4. Place piston at top dead center. Remove mufer (B)
and mufer gasket (C ).
5. Use a wood or plastic scraping tool to clean depos-
its from cylinder exhaust port.

Never use a metal tool to scrape carbon from the
exhaust port.
Do not scratch the cylinder or piston when cleaning
the exhaust port. Do not allow carbon particles to
enter the cylinder.
6. Inspect mufer gasket, and replace if damaged.
7. Install mufer gasket and mufer.
8. Tighten mufer mounting bolts (or nuts) to 60-95 in •
lbf (70-110 kgf • cm).
9. Install mufer support bracket (A).
10. Install guide bar and saw chain. See "Guide Bar and
Saw Chain Installation/Removal."
11. Install spark plug lead and air cleaner cover.
12. Start engine, and warm to operating temperature.
Stop engine.
13. Remove air cleaner cover and remove spark plug
lead.
14. Remove guide bar and saw chain. See "Guide Bar
and Saw Chain Installation/Removal."
15. Remove mufer support bracket.
16. Re-tighten mounting bolts (or nuts) to specications.
17. Install mufer support bracket.
18. Install guide bar and saw chain. See "Guide Bar and
Saw Chain Installation/Removal."
19. Install spark plug lead and air cleaner cover.
