Backbone Topology
Routers connect device channels to a common backbone channel. Typically, the
backbone is a high-speed channel, such as high-speed twisted pair, TP/XF-1250, or
LONWORKS/IP. Each device channel can have either a free or bus topology. It is not
necessary that each channel have the same topology. The guidelines for bus and
free topologies (that is, termination requirements and wiring length) must be
applied to each individual channel.
