4.1 Hardware Assembly
During normal storage and transportation, the Pavement Scanner is packed in its shipping
case. Proceed as follows to assemble the unit for surveying.
1. Open the shipping container and disconnect the charging cables from the tablet, the
odometer, and the batteries.
2. Remove the wheels and legs and attached the wheels to the legs. Make sure that the
wheel with the odometer target is attached to the leg with the odometer electronics, and
that the target is facing the leg.
3. Place the frame assembly with the sensor unit on the ground so that the frame is on the
ground and the sensor unit is on top. Attach the legs with the steerable wheels in front
and the fixed wheels in the rear. When standing behind the upside-down unit, the
odometer leg should be on the left with the switch facing down. Insert all push pins to
hold the legs in place.
4. Turn the cart over so that the wheels are on the ground. Attached the handle and then
attached the tablet to the handle.
5. Operate the unit as described in the Operation section. When finished, disassemble the
frame in the reverse order and return the components to the shipping case. Make sure
to remove the batteries, and connect the charging cables to the batteries, odometer, and
tablet.
