Box models
This powertrain is standard on most base 1500
models. The engine features Variable Valve Timing
and is capable of running on regular unleaded
fuel or up to 85% ethanol (E85)
Featuring outstanding performance with
remarkable fuel efciency, this popular powertrain
is available on most models and is standard with
SLT trim. It is E85 compatible and features Active
Fuel Management
®
and Variable Valve Timing.
An aluminum block version is available in
selected applications
This powertrain is exclusive to the Hybrid model
and features Active Fuel Management
®
for
improved fuel efciency when running in Hybrid
mode 2 and Late Intake Valve Closing (LIVC) to
facilitate frequent stops and re-starts

There’s a fundamental difference between a vehicle that can be adapted to handle the
specific demands of trailering and one that’s actually engineered from the ground up
with the rigours of towing in mind. Sierra is such a vehicle. A list of its standard trailering
features includes: trailer sway control that helps keep your truck and trailer heading in
the proper direction and a Tow/Haul mode in the six-speed automatic transmission that
reduces shifting to maintain power and torque. You can take Sierra’s towing abilities to the
next level with the available MAX Trailering Package. It ups the ante with a 403 horsepower

TM
V8, as well as trailer-friendly features like a heavy-duty 241 mm (9.5 in.) ring
gear in the rear differential, heavy-duty external engine oil and transmission oil cooling
systems, an Eaton® automatic locking rear differential and a weight-distributing hitch. The
result is a towing capacity of up to 4853 kg (10,700 lb.). Now that’s a truck built for towing.

AUTOMATIC LOCKING REAR DIFFERENTIAL
Sierra is the only full-size pickup to offer an
industry-leading Eaton® automatic locking rear
differential. When one rear wheel starts to rotate
approximately 100 rpm faster than the other,
the differential automatically locks up and the
two wheels rotate at the same speed to help you
make the most of the available grip.

TAP-UP/TAP-DOWN DRIVER SHIFT CONTROL
While all 2013 Sierra 1500 models come with
an automatic transmission with a Tow/Haul
mode, those equipped with the Vortec
TM
5.3L
and 6.2L V8 engines also receive tap-up/
tap-down Driver Shift Control.
