58. Press Switch
Build the circuit, press and hold the press switch (61), and you will see the LED (69) and the
bi-directional LED (71) turn on red at the same time. Install the bi-directional LED (71) in the
reverse direction, then press the press switch (61); the LED (69) will turn on red while the bi-
directional LED (71) will turn on blue.
The press switch (61) is a momentary or non-latching switch which temporarily closes the
electrical circuit only while the switch is physically actuated. An automatic mechanism (i.e. a
spring) returns the switch to its default position immediately afterwards, opening the circuit. This
type of switch is also sometimes called a “push to make” switch or a normally open (NO) Switch.
Example usages are doorbells, computer case power switches, and calculator buttons.
