MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Always switch o the appliance and unplug it from the mains before cleaning it. Wait until
it has cooled down completely.
Never immerse the appliance in water, never spray it with water and never hold it under a
tap.
1. Clean the outside cover of the appliance with a damp, soft, lint-free cloth and then wipe the cleaned
surfaces with a dry lint-free cloth. Take care not to allow any moisture inside the cover. Let the appliance dry
completely before re-using or storing it.
2. When cleaning the appliance, never use solvent (acetone, benzole, petrol, alcohol, etc.) as these may solve the
casing material, or the internal parts of the appliance if they get into. Do not use cleaning agents with coarse
or grinding eect.
3. Never remove the cover of the appliance.
4. The reusable lter and the coee pot can be washed in warm water with detergent. Never put them in a
dishwasher. After washing, rinse them in warm water and let them dry completely. Replace them on the
coee maker when they’re dry.
5. The coee maker should only be packed away for storage when it is completely cool and has been cleaned.
If you do not wish to use the appliance for a while, put it in a plastic bag and store it in a dry, dust-free place.
Make sure the water tank is completely dry to prevent any mould from forming. The mains cable must not be
wound round the appliance, even when stored, because this can cause the insulation to deteriorate or break.
Instructions for handling the glass coee pot:
The glass coee pot can break or crack if the following instructions are not followed:
a) The coee pot has only been designed for use with this coee maker. Do not use it for any other purposes.
b) Never put the coee pot on an electric or gas hob. Never put the coee pot in a microwave oven.
c) Do not place a hot coee pot on a wet or cold surface.
d) Never clean the pot with a scouring liquid, with a scouring pad or with any other scouring material. Always
wash the coee pot by hand and never put it in a dishwasher. Take particular care not to drop or knock it.
e) If you are making several batches of coee, always pour out any remaining coee and allow the pot to cool
down before making any more. A hot glass pot can crack if it is lled with cold water.
Important: Never use the coee pot if the glass is cracked or chipped. Never use it if the handle is loose or has
moved.
De-scaling the coee maker:
If the coee maker is generating large amounts of steam or is taking longer than usual to brew your coee, it is
time to de-scale the appliance. Scale is created when calcium (limescale) and other minerals separate from water
during heating. This can aect the avour of your coee, increase the brewing time and may even cause the
appliance to become faulty.
To prevent the unwanted eects of limescale, you should de-scale the appliance regularly. This should be carried
out at least 10-12 times per year. (This assumes the hardness of tap water is a maximum 18°dH / 22.5°Clarke). In
areas where the tap water is harder than 18°dH (22.5°Clarke), de-scaling should be carried out 12-15 times per
year. If you make coee several times a day or live in an area where tap water is very hard, you should de-scale
the appliance after every 30-40 brewing cycles. Your local water company will be able to answer any questions
about water hardness. Regular de-scaling needs to be carried out by the user and is not covered by the product
guarantee.
