CE PACKAGE INSTALLATION This document provides instructions for installing the CE package to the model 224 Automotive Dynamometer (dyno). To ensure safety and accuracy in the procedures, perform the procedures as they are described.
CE PACKAGE Introduction INTRODUCTION ................................... The CE package consists of the CE drum guards and the CE door switch. The CE drum guards are a valuable safety device that allow you to regulate the distance between the 224 dyno chassis and the drum. The CE door switch also provides an added safety measure by automatically activating the dyno’s air brake when it is triggered. This guide provides installation instructions for the CE drum guards and the CE door switch.
INSTALLATION GUIDE CE Drum Guards—Above Ground CE DRUM GUARDS—ABOVE GROUND ................................... The CE drum guards provide extra protection from the dyno’s drum by regulating the distance between the drum and the dyno’s chassis. The placement of the drum guards can be manually adjusted. The following instructions are for installing the CE drum guards on a 224 above ground dyno. If you have a pit dyno refer to “CE Drum Guards—Pit” on page 7.
CE PACKAGE CE Drum Guards—Above Ground INSTALLING THE CE DRUM GUARDS—ABOVE GROUND The CE Drum Guards are secured to the dyno’s cover set. The following instructions are for the 224 above ground dyno. If you have a 224 pit dyno please refer to “Installing the CE Drum Guards—Pit” on page 8. 1 Secure the front and rear CE drum guards to the long above ground covers using ten 1/4-20 x 5/8" panhead screws.
INSTALLATION GUIDE CE Drum Guards—Above Ground 3 Secure the two long covers with the front and rear drum guards to the dyno chassis using the eight 3/8-16 x 1" button-head allen bolts removed earlier. 4 The distance between the CE drum guards and the drum can be adjusted by loosening the screws that attach the drum guards to the above ground covers, adjusting the distance to less than five millimeters, and tightening the screws. Note: For clarity, the 224 deck is not shown.
CE PACKAGE CE Drum Guards—Above Ground 5 Secure the left and right covers with the side drum guards to the dyno chassis using the four 3/8-16 x 1" button-head allen bolts removed earlier. Do not operate the dynamometer without the CE drum guards properly installed. The gap between the drum guards and the drum must be less than five millimeters.
INSTALLATION GUIDE CE Drum Guards—Pit CE DRUM GUARDS—PIT ................................... The 224 pit dyno also benefits from the CE package. The CE drum guards provide extra protection from the dyno’s drum by reducing the distance between the drum and the dyno’s chassis. The placement of the drum guards can be manually adjusted. The following instructions are for installing the CE drum guards on a 224 pit dyno. If you have an above ground dyno refer to “CE Drum Guards—Above Ground” on page 3.
CE PACKAGE CE Drum Guards—Pit INSTALLING THE CE DRUM GUARDS—PIT The CE Drum Guards are secured to the dyno’s pit covers. The following instructions are for the 224 pit dyno. If you have a 224 above ground dyno please refer to “Installing the CE Drum Guards—Above Ground” on page 4. 1 Secure the front and rear CE drum guards to the two long pit covers using ten 1/4-20 x 5/8" panhead screws.
INSTALLATION GUIDE CE Drum Guards—Pit 3 Secure the end pit covers with the side drum guards to the dyno using the two 3/8-16 x 1" button-head allen bolts removed earlier. Do not operate the dynamometer without the CE drum guards properly installed. The gap between the drum guards and the drum must be less than five millimeters.
CE PACKAGE CE Drum Guards—Pit 4 Secure the long pit covers with the front and rear drum guards to the dyno and the end pit covers using the fourteen 3/8-16 x 1" button-head allen bolts removed earlier. 5 The distance between the CE drum guards and the drum can be adjusted by loosening the screws that attach the drum guards to the pit covers, adjusting the distance to less than 5 mm, and tightening the screws. Do not operate the dynamometer without the CE drum guards properly installed.
INSTALLATION GUIDE CE Door Switch CE DOOR SWITCH ................................... The CE door switch automatically applies the air brake to the dyno when it is activated. The switch is triggered when the pressure applied to it is released, as when a door opens. Components attached to and within the dynamometer operate with potentially lethal voltages.
CE PACKAGE CE Door Switch 5 Insert the stripped wire into the butt connector and crimp. Note: The butt connector is attached to the wire included with the CE door switch. 6 Insert the ferrule, located on the same side as the butt connector, to the Breakout board. Note: The ferrule will connect to the Breakout board at the same terminal as the removed brake wire.
