AC/DC Charger

Failure to operate the product correctly can result in damage to the

This is a sophisticated hobby product. It must be operated with caution
and common sense and requires some basic mechanical ability. Failure
to operate this Product in a safe and responsible manner could result
in injury or damage to the product or other property. This product is not
intended for use by children without direct adult supervision. Do not
attempt disassembly, use with incompatible components or augment
product in any way without the approval of Horizon Hobby, Inc. This
manual contains instructions for safety, operation and maintenance. It
is essential to read and follow all the instructions and warnings in the
manual, prior to assembly, setup or use, in order to operate correctly
and avoid damage or serious injury.

• Alwaysconnectthechargecabletothechargerrst,thenconnect
the battery to avoid short circuit between the charge leads. Reverse
the sequence when disconnecting.
• Alwaysconnectthepositiveredleads(+)andnegativeblackleads
(–)correctly.
• Alwaysdisconnectthebatteryaftercharging,andletthecharger
cool between charges.
• AlwaysterminateallprocessesandcontactHorizonHobbyifthe
product malfunctions.
WARNING:Neverleavechargerunattended,exceed
maximumchargerate,chargewithnon-approvedbatteries
or charge batteries in the wrong mode. Failure to comply may result
inexcessiveheat,reandseriousinjury.
CAUTION: Always ensure the battery you are charging
meets the specifications of this charger and that the charger
settingsarecorrect.Notdoingsocanresultinexcessiveheatand
other related product malfunctions, which can lead to user injury or

GETTING STARTED
CAUTION:NeverconnecttheACandDCinputcordstoan
active power source at the same time. This will void the
warranty, cause product damage and possibly injure the user.
When Using External DC Power Source:
1.Attachtheplugofyourcharger’sDCpoweradaptercordtothe
chargerDCpowerinputport.
NOTICE: Alwaysconsult12Vbatterycollateralmaterialsor
HorizonHobbybeforeusingwithsourcesotherthanstandardAC
wall outlet.
When Using External AC Power Source:
2.ConnecttheincludedjumperplugtotheDCpowerportonthe
side of the charger.
3.AttachtheACpowercordtothecharger.Makesurethecord
plugisfullyseatedinthesocket,thenconnecttheACpower
cord to an appropriate power socket.
4.Whenpoweredon,thecharger’sLCDpanelglowsblueandthe
internalcoolingfaninitiates.Whenthechargerispoweredon,
amessagewillappearontheLCDscreen.
CAUTION: Always power on the charger before
connecting a battery, or damage to the charger and the
battery can result.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
BATTERY KEY:Presstoaccess7MainMenuScreens,6ProgramSelectionsand1UserSet.
START KEY: Press to access submenus, adjust operating values, save value changes and start chosen
battery charging action.
DECREASE OR INCREASE KEY: Press to scroll through submenu screens or change screen values.
During charging:
Decrease key– CanbepressedtoshowseveralparametermessagesontheLCDscreenincluding:
•EndVoltage •CapacityCut-off •SafetyTimersetting •TemperatureCut-off •InputPowerVoltage.
Increase key– Canbepressedtoseechargeforeachcell(examplebelow).(PresstheDecrease key toreturntotheCharge

BATTERY TYPE:
CAUTION: Before you begin charging a battery, always
ensure you have selected the correct chemistry and
battery type information to correspond to the battery
you are charging.
CHARGER START UP SCREEN
After powering on, you will briefly see the model information startup
screen.Outofthebox,thechargerispre-programmedtodisplay
theLi-Poprogrammingscreen.Ifanewbatterytypeisselected,the
corresponding programming screen will be displayed for the selected
battery type until another type is selected.
LITHIUM (Li–Po/Li–ION/Li–Fe) BATTERY CHARGING
CAUTION:ONLYusetheLithiumbatteryprogrammenus
forthecharginganddischargingofLithiumbatterypacks.
ThechargingofotherbatterytypesusingtheLichargeprograms
will result in damage to the battery and perhaps the charger.
CAUTION: If at any time during the charge process the
batterypack(s)becomehotorbegintopuffunplugthe
battery immediately and discontinue the charge process as
batteries can cause fire, collateral damage and injuries.
CAUTION: Always charge battery packs at settings
recommended by the battery manufacturer for the cell
count,voltageandcapacityofabatterypack(forexample,2S,
3S,etc.).Donotsetcapacity(amps)andvoltagesohighthatthe
charger’s200Wattmaximumoutputlimitisexceeded.Usinga
charge rate that is not compatible with the battery capacities may
result in damage or malfunction of the charger or batteries.

screens:

• Neverleavethepowersupply,chargerandbatteryunattended
during use.
• PresstheStart key again to save the pack voltage value
• Ifnovaluesareashing,PresstheDecrease key or Increase
keytoselectanotherprogramsuchasBALANCE,FASTCHG,
STORAGEorDISCHARGE.
• PressandholdtheStart keyforapproximately3secondsuntil
thescreenchangestotheStartBatteryCheck/Chargesequence.
• Thescreenwillshowbatteryandsettinginformation.
• IfinformationafterR:(Charger)andS:(Settings)(Item A) does
not match, pess the Battery key to change values as needed.
• IfRmatchesS,presstheStart key to confirm and charging will
begin.
• DuringCharging,pesstheDecrease key to display values such
asEndVoltage,CapacityCutoff,SafetyTimersetting,Temperature
CutoffandInputPowerVoltage.
• PresstheIncrease key to see charge for each cell.
• Pressthe Decrease key to return to main screen.
• Ifthetimerisset,thechargerwillsoundwhenchargingiscom-
plete.

BALANCE CHARGING
BalanceChargingensureseachcellinabatterypackischargedto
the same capacity and voltage level as the other cells.

FAST CHARGE
Near the end of a standard charging cycle, the charger switches
fromConstantCurrent(CC)modetoConstantVoltage(CV)modeto
slowly “top off” the current in the battery pack as close as possible
tothemaximumcapacity.InFastChargetheCVmodeiseliminated
in order to greatly shorten the charging time; however, the final
capacity of the battery will be less than what you would get using
the standard charge method.
To select values other than the default values:

STORAGE
Ifyoudon’tplanonusingyourbatteryforalongtime,itisbestto
charge(ordischarge)thebatterytoit’soptimalstoragevoltageand
capacity.ThesevoltagevaluesaredifferentforLi-Po(3.85V),Li-Fe
(3.3V)andLi-Ion(3.75V)batterypacks.ByusingStorageCharge,
thechargerwillautomaticallychargeordischarge(dependingonthe
currentchargelevel)thebatterytoanappropriatelevel.
To select values other than the default values:

minimum voltage level and measuring the current as the pack is
discharged.

Ni-MH/Ni-Cd BATTERY CHARGING

menusforcharginganddischargingNi-MHorNi-Cd
battery packs. The charging of other battery types using the
Ni-MHorNi-Cdchargeprogramswillresultindamagetothe
batteryand/orcharger.
• GotothePROGRAMSELECTNi-MHorNi-Cdbatteryscreen.
• PresstheDecrease or Increase key to go to one of the control
screens:
–CHARGE –DISCHARGE –CYCLE
• ConnectNi-MHorNi-Cdbatterytothecharger.
• PresstheStart key and adjust charging values.
To select values other than the default values:
• PresstheStart keysotheChargeCurrentvalue(Item A)
flashes
• PresstheDecrease key or Increase keytoDECREASEor
INCREASEtheChargeCurrentvalue

to its minimum voltage level and measuring the current as the
pack is discharged.

Pb BATTERY CHARGING
CAUTION:ONLYusethePbchargeprogrammenusfor
thecharginganddischargingofPb(Lead-AcidorSealed
Lead-Acid)batterypacks.Thechargingofotherbatterytypes
using the Pb charge programs will result in damage to the battery
and charger.
ThenatureofaLead–AcidorSealedLead-Acidbatteryisvery
differentfromthatofLithium,Ni-MHorNi-Cdbatteries.Theoutput
current of a Pb battery is lower than other batteries relative to their
capacities.Furthermore,leadacidbatteriescan’tbechargedata
levelgreaterthan1/10ththeircapacity.Forexample,a5000mAh
leadacidbatterycan’tbechargedatarategreaterthan0.5A.For
more details on the charge and discharge capabilities of your battery,
please refer to charging data supplied by the battery manufacturer.

Pb functions:
