Showerboard Installation Guide
Step 1 Subfloor Prep
You must begin with a dry and structurally sound subfloor. If water damage, rotting or any other structural defects are
present, you MUST repair prior to installing your new showerboard. A clean and level subfloor is required for a
successful installation. After cleaning the subfloor, use a level to check the subfloor. The subfloor MUST be level so that
the showerboard will drain correctly.
Note: a self-leveling mortar can be used to level the subfloor.
Step 2 Dry fit the showerboard
The 2” white PVC waste pipe has to be cut down 2-1/2” inches below the TOP of the subfloor. Next, use PVC primer and
adhesive to glue the gray PVC drain outlet to the white PVC pipe. REMOVE the red drain cover and gray connector ring
before you install the PVC drain outlet. These will be used in Step 3. IMPORTANT: the black rubber ring on the connector
has to be level with the TOP of the subfloor. This is the most important step of the install ation process. The showerboard
MUST make a solid connection to the black rubber ring, or you will have a water leak. Once you have install ed the ne w
PVC drain outlet and pre-fit the showerboard into its desired location, please move onto Step 3.
Step 3 Install the showerboard
Mix a modified thin-set mortar per manufacturer specification. Use a ¼square notch trowel and apply the thin-set
mortar to the floor and the back side of the showerboard. Set it into place. Make sure that you have a clean connection
to the PVC drain outlet installed in Step 2. DO NOT cross thread or force the connector ring into the drai n. USE the red
drain cover as a tool to screw the connector ring firmly into the drain outlet installed in Step 2. Leave the red cover in
the waste pipe during the remaining construction process of the shower to protect the waste pipe from falli ng debris.
Use a level to make sure the showerboard is level around the perimeter.
Step 4 Install drain cover
Use the shower floor tile you selected and set it next to the drain cover assembly for proper height adjustment. REMOVE
the red drain cover. Screw down the height adjuster ring until the tile and ring are even in height. Use silicone to secure
the metal grate casing in place on the square PVC drain cover setting. Set the grate cover in place.
