CHIMNEY CONNECTOR
Your chimney connector (commonly called stove pipe) and chimney must havethe same diameter as the
stove’s exhaust outlet. The stove pipe must be madeof aluminized or cold roll steel witha minimum 24‐
gaugethickness(0.021"or0.53mm).Itisstrictlyforbiddentousegalvanizedsteel.
Thefollowing
recommendationsmaybeusefulfortheinstallationofyourchimneyconnector:
Your chimney connector should be assembled in such a way that the male end (crimped) faces
down to prevent creosote dripping outside the joints.Attach each of thesections to one another
with three equidistant metal screws.Also use three equidistant metal screws to attach the
connectortothe
stove’sexhaustcollar.SeeFigure2.3(A)andFigure2.3(B).
Thepipe must be shortand straight.All sections installed horizontally must slopeat least ¼ inch
perfoot,withtheupperendofthesectiontowardthechimney.SeeFigure2.3DetailB.
Toinsure a
gooddraft, the total horizontallength of the connector should neverexceed 8'to 10'
(2.4to 3.04m).In the caseofverticalinstallation, thetotallengthoftheconnector can bemuch
longerandconnectedwithoutproblemtothechimneyattheceilinglevel.
There should never be
more than two 90 degrees elbows in the whole connector and chimney
system.Neverstartwitha90
o
elbow.Alwaysgoupverticallyforatleast2feetfromthefluespigot
beforeusinga90
o
elbow.
The connector must not pass through any combustible material, nor may it pass through a
concealedspace(suchasanattic,roofspace,orcloset).Ifpassingthroughawall,ceiling,orintoa
masonrychimney,useeitherchimneycomponentslistedforthatspecificuse,ormeansacceptable
tolocalauthoritieshavingjurisdictionovertheinstallation.
Installation of a "barometric draft stabiliser" (fireplace register) on a connector is not
recommended.
