Interoperability using LonTalk
The Vapor-logic
3
controller uses LonTalk as its field bus protocol,
which enables previously disparate systems and products to
interoperate by providing communication through Standard
Network Variable Types or SNVTs (“snivits”). Any device can be
installed on a network and logically connected to other devices
via SNVTs as long as the SNVTs are the same type. The LonTalk
twisted-pair network connection is made to Vapor-logic
3
using the
main board terminal block J4, labeled A and B (see Page 11).
A humidifier with Vapor-logic
3
can communicate with various
building automation systems (BAS) using LonTalk. This
communication using SNVTs allows a BAS (or other device) to
control and/or monitor a humidifier with Vapor-logic
3
. On the
control side, a BAS connected to a humidifier with Vapor-logic
3
can do things like set the run mode of the unit, change the RH set
point, or tell the unit how much steam to make. On the monitoring
side, a BAS can monitor alarm states of the unit, RH readings, tank
temperature, steam output, and service information.
This section provides information on LonTalk inputs, outputs,
and SNVT types used with Vapor-logic
3
, as well as connection
instructions. For more information on SNVTs, refer to the LonMark
