Clean & inspect
spark arrester
(instructions for
620-20HE only)
Clean and inspect the spark arrester on muffler
If the engine has been running, the muffler and spark arrester will be hot.
Allow those to cool before servicing the spark arrester.
Tools needed: Wire brush and Philip’s head screwdriver
1. Remove the securing screw from the side of the spark arrester (located
on the exhaust output pipe on the muffler).
2. Slide the spark arrester off the exhaust pipe.
3. Inspect the spark arrester mesh (screen). Replace spark arrester if mesh
(screen) is damaged.
4. Use a wire brush to lightly remove the carbon deposits from the spark
arrester mesh (screen). Be careful to avoid damaging the mesh (screen).
5. Slide the spark arrester over the exhaust pipe and align the spark arrester
hole to the exhaust pipe hole at the 3 o’clock position.
6. Secure the spark arrester using the supplied screw.
Belt Tension Adjustment
Note: Belt tension and alignment are inter-related. Do not adjust one without checking the
other.
1. Remove belt guard.
2. Loosen (4) engine bolts.
3. With long socket extension drive, move engine forward with rear adjusting bolt.
4. When belt tension is proper 11 to 14 ft/lbs (15 to 19 Nm) of tension, or 3/16” (5 mm)
deflection, retighten all loosened bolts.
5. Reassemble belt guard.
