object-based audio
Consists of one or more audio signals and associated metadata. Object-based audio can
contain bed objects (channel-based audio) with a fixed nominal playback position, dynamic
objects with explicit positional metadata that can change with time, and/or intermediate
spatial format objects. Object-based audio is closely linked to auditory image position
rather than assumed loudspeaker positions.
Pa
The name of a start-of-frame marker defined in SMPTE 337‑2008.
PCM
Pulse code modulation. A method that is used to convert analog signals into digital, binary,
coded pulses by sampling the analog signal, quantizing each sample independently, and
converting the resulting quantized values into a digital signal.
PID
Packet identifier. A unique code that identifies a packetized elementary stream (PES) within
a transport stream. The PID is contained in the transport stream packet header and is listed
in the service information (SI) for a transport stream.
RTP
Real-time Transport Protocol. An IP network audio and video protocol.
SDI
Serial digital interface.
SMPTE
Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
transport stream
As defined in ISO/IEC 13818‑1, a packetized bitstream that is used to transmit audio and
video information. A transport stream is made up of multiplexed program elementary
streams.
UDP
User Datagram Protocol. A communications protocol that uses no handshaking dialogues to
establish a connection with the remote host. UDP is a member of the IP suite.

User interface.
USB
Universal Serial Bus. A standard that defines the cables, connectors, and communications
protocols used in connections between computers and electronic devices.
