Loudness
Metering Mode
The applied metering mode is ITU-R BS.1770-4, with or without Dolby Dialogue
Intelligence, depending on whether you have applied Dialogue Intelligence to
the broadcast stream.
Speech
Threshold
Set the loudness speech threshold to any setting between 1 and 100 percent.
The default setting is 20 percent.
4.6.1 Loudness parameters
The selectable loudness parameters on the DP580 provide a view of the decoded bitstream
responses to the application of loudness control.
This table lists the available parameters and their characteristics.

Parameter Description
dialnorm The dialogue normalization metadata parameter, as contained within the
input bitstream
Short Ungated (10 s) A ten-second sliding window measurement, as per ITU-R BS.1770
Integrated Level Gated A cumulative loudness value measured according to ITU-R BS.1770-4
Sample Peak The maximum absolute PCM sample value
True Peak The peak value, oversampled four times, as calculated per ITU-R BS.1770-4
On the front-panel UI of the DP580, you can find an abbreviated description of the type of
loudness measurement that is currently being applied when Dialogue Intelligence is selected in
the Loudness Setup panel of the Loudness web client page. The abbreviations and their
meanings are listed here.

Shrt Lvl Short-term level
Shrt Sp Short-term speech ungated
Shrt Ung Short-term ungated
At boot up, or when Dialogue Intelligence is not selected, the default modes are Int Lvl and
Shrt Ung.
