compatibility,multichannelaudiomixingrequirestheengineertoreferencethemixto
fewerspeakerchannelstoensurecompatibilityindownmixingsituations.Inthisway,
DolbyDigital,usingthemetadataparametersthatcontroldownmixing,isan“equal
opportunitytechnology,”inthateveryconsumerwhoreceivestheDolbyDigitaldata
streamcanenjoythebestaudioreproductionpossible,regardlessoftheplaybacksystem.
Itisimportanttoconsidertheoutputsignalsfromeachpiece ofequipmentthatcanreceive
aDolbyDigitalprogram inthehome.Table D‐2shows
theoutputtypesfromdifferent
equipment.
