Therearetwofunctionalclassificationsofmetadata:
Professional—TheseparametersarecarriedonlyintheDolbyEbitstream.Theyareused
toautomaticallyconfigureadownstreamDolbyDigitalencoder,allowingmaximum
controlbythecontentproduceroverhowtheencodedbitstreamistreatedateachstepon
thewayto
theconsumer’sdecoder.
Consumer—TheseparametersarecarriedinboththeDolbyEandtheDolbyDigital
bitstream.Theconsumer’sDolbyDigitaldecoderusestheseparameterstocreatethebest
possibleaudioprogrampossibleoneachconsumer’splaybacksystem.Consumer
parametersincludetheDRCvalues,whichareultimatelyenabledbythe
enduser’s
selection,asdiscussedinSection D.3.
