Site Preparation
The customer should perform a few prepatory steps prior to the certified installer’s
arrival. First, they should check all of their PCs/workstations for a valid and working
Ethernet connection. Second, they should obtain the landlord’s written permission for the
installation – if applicable.
Direcway does provide a rather old online PC test at www.getdway.com . It gives data
for DW4000 systems but at least it will verify the functionality of the PCs Ethernet card
and drivers. Follow the steps to “Test your PC” to execute the system test.
At CPE Labs we use a free software tool from Belarc that can be downloaded from their
web site located at www.belarc.com/free_download.html . It gives a more complete
system configuration detail using their Belarc Advisor product. But, it is for windows
systems only. All that is really needed is a 10BaseT Ethernet connection on the back of
the PC or workstation. Operating system type, versions, disk drive space, RAM available,
etc. does not really matter. The only real requirement is that the PC or workstation be
able to execute a web browser or any internet related access software.
If the customer is not the owner of the property where the installation is to occur they
should get written permission for the installation before the installer arrives. CPE Labs
has a form online at http://www.cpe-labs.com/PDFs/LandlordApproval.pdf .
The customer should also review the Direcway “Terms and Conditions” located on the
www.getdway.com website (http://legal.direcway.com/index.html). During the
installation they will be required to agree to these terms. It is best to discover during pre-
install that there is something in the agreement that will be unacceptable rather than after
the install has started and a rather substantial installation fee is assessed.
Direcway does offer a “DW6000 User Guide”; but, you have to know where to find it:
