12.4 Electrical Connections Supply Volt age
FIRE HAZARD!
To avoid the risk of property damage, personal injury
or fire, use only copper conductors.
IMPORTANT NOTE: USE COPPER CONDUCTORS ONLY.
Knockout s are provided on t he air handler t op panel and sides
of t he cabinet t o allow f or t he ent ry of t he supply volt age
conduct ors, as shown in Figure 13. If t he knockout s on t he
cabinet sides are used f or elect rical conduit , an adapt er ring
must be used in order t o meet UL1995 safet y requirement s.
An NEC or CEC approved st rain relief is t o be used at t his
ent ry point . Some codes/ municipalit ies require t he supply
wire t o be enclosed in conduit . Consult your local codes.

12.4. 1 Air Handler Only (Non-Heat Kit Models)
The building suppl y connect s t o t he st ripped black and
red wires cont ained in t he air handler elect rical com-
part ment cavit y. A ground screw is also cont ained in
t his area. At t ach t he Supply wires t o t he air handler
conduct ors as shown in t he unit wiring diagram using
appropriat ely sized solderless connect ors or ot her NEC
or CEC approved means.
12.4. 2 Air Handler - Non-Circuit Breaker Heat Kit s
A t erminal block is provided wit h t he HKS kit t o at t ach
t he power supply and air handler connect ions. Follow
t he HKS Inst allat ion Manual and wiring diagram for com-
plet e wiring det ails.
12.4. 3 Air Handler Wit h Circuit Breaker Heat Kit
The air handler has sof t plast ic cover on t he upper
access panel and can be removed t o allow t he heat er
kit circuit breaker t o be inst alled. The circuit breakers
have lugs f or power supply connect ion. See t he HKS
Inst allat ion Inst ruct ions f or f urt her det ails.
12. 5 Low Volt age Connect ions
Several combinat ions of low volt age schemes are pos-
sible, depending on t he presence of a heat kit and
whet her t he heat kit is single-st age or mult i-st age,
whet her t he out door sect ion is an air condit ioner or
heat pump, and whet her t he out door sect ion is single-
st age or t wo-st age. The 24V-cont rol volt age connect s
t he air handler t o t he room t hermost at and condenser.
Low volt age wiring must be copper conduct ors. A mini-
mum of 18AWG must be used f or inst allat ions up t o
100 f eet . Low volt age wiring must be connect ed
t hrough t he t op of t he cabinet or eit her side. See t he
Thermost at Wiring” sect ion of t his manual f or t ypi-
cal low vol t age wiring connect ions.
12.5. 1 Thermost at s
Second-st age heat can be accomplished by a mult i-
st age heat ing t hermost at or t he addit ion of an out -
door t hermost at as shown in wiring schemat ics on page
19. Follow t he t hermost at manuf act urer s inst ruc-
t ions f or inst allat ion.
12.6 Speed Tap Adj ust ment
ARUF**14** air handlers have mult i-speed PSC mot ors.
The color of t he wire coming f rom t he mot or t o t he
COM t erminal on t he cont rol board def ines at which
speed t he mot or will operat e. Black wire is high speed,
blue wire is medium speed and red wire is low speed.
To change speeds, remove t he wire at t ached t o t he
COM t erminal on t he cont rol board, and swap it
wit h t he wire (on t erminal M1 or M2” ) wit h t he
color t hat will give t he desired speed.
ASPT**14** air handlers f eat ure energy ef ficient blower
mot ors. The mot ors run at a const ant t orque wit h very
low power consumpt ion and are energized by 24 VAC.
Adj ust t he CFM by changing t he 24 VAC leads t o t he
desired speed t ap on t he t erminal block. The ASPT
blower mot or speeds are programmed t o deliver ad-
equat e airf low at rat ed ext ernal st at ic pressure and
wit h 60 second of f t ime del ay. For det ails, ref er t o
t he specif icat ion sheet applicable t o your model.
NOTE: In some model s, not all speed t aps are allowable f or
cert ain elect ric heat applicat ions. Ref er t o Table 5 f or
minimum speed.
