6.8 Case 7: Switched FDDI Backbone
Goal
Migrate a large shared FDDI backbone to switched FDDI backbone.
Design Requirements
• Migration of the local workgroups to higher bandwidth.
• Provide shared network servers.
• Have network management.
Suggested Configuration
• Platform types:
– DEChub 900 MultiSwitch (three)
– GIGAswitch/FDDI
• Network Modules:
– DECswitch 900EF
– DECrepeater 900TM
– DECconcentrator 900MX
• clearVISN network management software.
Once the hardware has been installed, the clearVISN MultiChassis Manager soft-
ware is used to configure the platforms and modules.
Figure 6–13 shows the hardware implementation.
