Hardware Installation and Configuration
Overview
This guide explains requirements and installation of Windows NT Clusters on
DIGITAL Servers with the BA356 Ultra Storage array.
Windows NT Clusters provides a high-availability solution for today’s
client/server LANs. It enables two Windows NT systems to be coupled together,
via a shared SCSI bus, to create a single system environment, or cluster. End-
users have access to all the cluster resources, such as shared disks, file shares,
and database applications, without having to know the names of the individual
servers in the cluster. If one server system fails, the second server in the cluster
immediately assumes its workload, reconnects clients, and fails-over shared
storage and file shares.
The use of differential components – differential SCSI Adapters, differential
converters, and differential cabling – is required for this application, as described
in the following sections. Use of differential components allows the SCSI bus
interconnect length to approach 25 meters, an advantage when creating a cluster
configuration.
