Running the Diagnostic Self–Tests
To run a diagnostic self–test:
1. On the control panel, press the ON LINE switch to place the printer
off–line. “Off–line Emulation” displays.
2. Raise the printer cover.
3. On the control panel, press the and switches at the same time.
“ENTER Switch Not Locked” briefly displays. (If “Locked” displays,
press and again.)
4. Press the switch. The current emulation displays.
5. Press the or switch until “Emulation Self Test” displays.
6. Press ENTER. “Emulation Self Test * ” displays.
7. Press . “Self Test ASCII Swirl” displays.
8. Press or until the test you want to run displays. (The tests are
summarized on page 4–27.)
9. Press R/S (or ENTER) to start the self–test.
Press R/S (or ENTER) to stop the test.
10. Examine the print quality. Characters should be horizontally and
vertically aligned and solidly formed.
11. Press CLEAR. “Off–Line Emulation” displays.
12. Press once, then press until the emulation you want displays.
13. Press ENTER, then press the and switches simultaneously.
14. Close the printer cover.
15. Press the ON LINE switch to place the printer on–line.
