Ham. Coil Open *

1. Cycle power: Turn printer off.
Wait 15 seconds. Turn printer
on.
“Ham. Coil Open * ” message. Go to step 2. Return printer to
normal operation.
2. Press the CLEAR switch.
“Ham. Coil Open * ” message. Go to step 3. Return printer to
normal operation.
3. Run a diagnostic self–test
(page 4–27).
“Ham. Coil Open * ” message. Go to step 4. Return printer to
normal operation.
4. Run a diagnostic self–test
(page 4–27).
Observe where the non–printing
hammer is located.
Go to step 5.

5. Switch hammer bank cable
connectors at the hammer
driver board. (Top connectors
are for the left side of the
hammer bank.)

Go to step 6.

6. Run a diagnostic self–test
(page 4–27). Observe where
the non–printing hammer is
located.
Position of the non–printing
hammer remains the same.
Replace the
offending coil then
go to step 7.
If the non–printing
hammer is 1–40,
replace the
hammer driver
board. If the
non–printing
hammer is 41–88,
replace the
mechanism driver
board. Go to step
7.
7. Return the hammer bank
cables to their correct
connectors on the hammer
driver board. Run a
diagnostic self–test (page
4–27).
“Ham. Coil Open * ” message. Replace the
hammer bank
cables.
Return printer to
normal operation.
