Spacing
The five spacing sequences covered in this section affect the spacing of lines
and characters on the page but do not affect character size. Horizontal pitch
affects character spacing in characters per inch (cpi). Vertical pitch affects
line spacing in lines per inch (lpi).

Horizontal and vertical pitch values can be changed by using the Select
Horizontal Spacing (SHS) and Select Vertical Spacing (SVS) sequences or
the Spacing Pitch Increment (SPI) sequence. These sequences can accept two
spacing units: decipoints or pixels. To select the unit of measurement, use the
Position Unit Mode (PUM) and Select Size Unit (SSU) sequences.
Alternatively, you can use Set Horizontal Pitch (DECSHORP) and Set
Vertical Pitch (DECVERP) sequences to alter spacing.
Except for DECSHORP, all spacing commands are acted upon as soon as
they are received, and the new spacing increments take effect immediately.
