Administering the Archiving Services
One of the more common tasks of a system administrator is helping users
recover lost or corrupted files. To perform that task effectively, you must set
up procedures for backing up files at frequent and regular intervals. This
chapter discusses how to back up and restore files, and describes the
following tasks:
Backing up data
Choosing a backup schedule
Performing a full backup
Performing an incremental backup
Performing a remote backup
Using backup scripts
Restoring data
Restoring a file system
Restoring a file system on a new partition
Restoring files
Restoring files interactively
Performing remote restores
_______________________ Note _______________________
You can also use the SysMan dxarchiver command to perform
some of these tasks.
The Tru64 UNIX operating system has other facilities you can use to back
up and restore files:
NetWorker SingleServer Save and Restore
A component of Tru64 UNIX, used for single system archiving, and
packaged as an optional subset to the operating system
POLYCENTER NetWorker Save and Restore
A separately licensed product, used for networked systems archiving
