Installing PC Modem Cards in Windows NT 4.0
To install PC modem cards and drivers within Windows NT 4.0 please refer to the
following instructions.
1. Save all data files and close any open applications. Insert the PC modem Card
into the PC Card socket. Please refer to figure 5-1 if you have questions on
inserting PC Cards into the PC Card socket.
2. Open Control panel by either clicking on the My Computer icon and then
Control Panel or by clicking on the [Start] button, then Settings and then
Control panel.
3. Double click on the Modem icon. The Install New Modem dialogue box will
appear informing you that Windows will attempt to detect the modem. Click
on the [Next] button.
4. In the Install New Modem dialogue box, you will be notified of the location of
the modem (COM 2) and the driver. If Windows NT does not have the modem
in its data base, Windows NT will substitute the cards driver with “Standard
Modem Types.” This driver works with most all modems. Click on the [Next]
button.
5. The Location Information dialogue box will appear requesting your country,
current area code and the number you need to press, if any, to access an outside
line. Fill in the information and click on the [Next] button.
6. Click on [Finish]. The PC Card Modem is now installed.
Installing PC Network Cards in Windows NT 4.0
To install PC Network cards and drivers within Windows NT 4.0, please refer to the
following instructions.
1. Save all data files, close any open applications and shut down the notebook.
2. Insert the PC Network Card into the PC Card socket. Please refer to figure 5-1
if you have questions on inserting PC Cards into the PC Card socket. Turn the
notebook on. The PC Network Card must be installed in the notebook prior to
boot up.
3. Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon and click on the Adapter tab.
4. Click on the [Add] button. The Select Network Adapter dialogue box will
appear. Locate and click on your card’s network driver. Click on the [OK]
button and skip to step 7. If you were unable to locate the driver from the list
proceed to step 5.
5. If you are unable to locate the Network driver from the list provided by
Windows NT and you have the driver located on a floppy, insert the
manufacturer’s floppy which came with PC Card into the floppy drive and click
on the [Have Disk] button.
