An external
monitor is
connected and is
not working.
Loose or incorrect cable
connections
The notebook’s video
mode may be in LCD
only.
Monitor does not support
multi-sync and/or higher
resolutions.
Check all cable connections, including AC
power (Figure 5-2).
Use the [fn] + [F4] key combination to
switch to CRT or Simul (simultaneously
viewing both LCD and CRT) mode.
Some older monitors are not multi-sync and
higher resolutions will not sync up. Set the
display output for external monitor only
with [fn] + [F4]. Using the Display applet
from the Windows Control Panel, select a
resolution supported by the monitor.
If you attach an XVGA monitor to the
notebook, the system must also be set at
XVGA.
Notebook
computer locks
up.
Software or hardware
configuration problem.
Reset the notebook computer by pressing the
Reset button located under the keyboard
next to the hard drive.
Check all software and hardware
configurations.
