2.2 IBM or Compatible PC Interface Connections
If you use MS–DOS or Windows software, you can connect the DEClaser
5100 printer to your PC using a parallel or serial cable. The parallel port
supports IEEE 1284 bidirectional and standard Centronics unidirectional
communications, while the serial port supports EIA-232 and EIA-422
communications. Use the following information to help you determine
which interface port to use for your particular printing requirements.
Parallel Port
The parallel port transmits data at a faster rate than a serial interface. Use
the parallel interface if your printer is less than 3 meters (10 feet) from your
computer.
NOTE
The default printer setting for parallel communication is:
MODE=Centronics (1-way communication)
Refer to Appendix A in your DEClaser 5100 Printer User’s Guide
for information about changing the communication settings for your
printer.
Go to Section 2.2.1 if you are connecting a parallel cable to the printer.
