Importing a Text Data File
74 Chapter 7
9. Drag or move fields into the Key Fields column to
identify key fields in your import file.
If data in a key field matches the corresponding
field (based on your selections in the Map Fields
tab) of one of your records, the other fields in that
record will be updated to contain the data from the
import file.
Imported records where the data does not match
key fields in the existing collection will be added as
new records (without thumbnails).
10. If you want to save all of your choices in each panel for
use in importing other files, click Save.
In the standard file dialog box that appears, type a
name for your import settings and click Save again.
11. Click Import.
Records in the import file will be added to the
collection as new "blank" records (that is, records
without thumbnails), unless the data in the key
field(s) you selected match existing records. For
details on linking blank records with source files,
see “Updating Records” on page 108).
Records whose key field data matches the
corresponding import field will be updated to
reflect the other fields in the import file.
