Creating a New Collection 49
Changing the Names of Data Fields
In naming data fields, remember that you can change the
label of any given field for each collection you create (see
“Changing Field Labels” on page 26), so the name of a field
should be a broader term that can apply to more than one
collection.
1. Click in the text entry box that contains the field name
you want to change. (The text entry box is immediately
to the right of the number for the field.)
2. Type the name you want in the text entry box.
Changing Field Types
To change the type of a field, click the Typ e pop-up menu in
the row corresponding to the field, then choose one of the
types below from the list that appears:
•Text
Holds up to 256 characters.
•Numeric
Holds integers. Useful for organization and sorting.
•Date/Time
Converts all date/time information you enter to a
consistent format based on your system settings (to
change this format, see “Changing Date/Time Field
Options” on page 26).
Changing the Length of Text Fields
The default maximum length of any text field depends on
the database type you are using. In most cases, it is
approximately 256 characters.
To define a shorter maximum length for text fields, enter the
desired value in the Length text entry box.
