Using And/Or in Complex Searches
Searching and Sorting Collections 99
For more precise searching, combine multiple terms within
a single search. (Again, more complex searches may take
longer for ImageAXS to complete.)
To search based on two or more shared
characteristics:
1. Follow Steps 1 through 5 in the procedure above.
Doing this completes one row of your search
criteria.
2. To search by additional fields, keywords, or other
characteristics or conditions, click More, then repeat
Steps 3 through 5 above for the new row that appears.
To remove the last row from the list, click Fewer.
3. Choose a connector (and or or) for each row of search
criteria that is followed by another row (see “Using
And/Or in Complex Searches” on page 99).
4. Repeat Steps 6 through 9 in the procedure above.
The results of your search appear in a portfolio
window.
Using And/Or in Complex Searches
Whenever you conduct a search with more than one line of
search criteria, you must decide whether you want the
search to find records that satisfy the first row of criteria and
the second row of criteria (for example, JPEG files described
with the keyword “Birds”), or the larger group of records
that satisfy either the first row of criteria or the second row
of criteria (for example, all JPEG files in the collection, plus
all files described with the keyword “Birds”).
