Chapter 1: Welcome to Pro Tools|HD Native 3
An iLok can hold hundreds authorizations for
all of your iLok-enabled software. Once an iLok
is authorized for a given piece of software, you
can use the iLok to authorize that software on
any computer.
MIDI Requirements
USB MIDI interfaces (such as the M-Audio
MIDI-SPORT series) and USB MIDI controllers
(such as the M-Audio Axiom Pro series) work ef-
fectively with Pro Tools systems on Windows or
Mac.
For a list of supported MIDI interfaces and con-
trollers, refer to our website (www.avid.com).
Hard Drive Requirements
For optimal audio recording and playback,
Pro Tools|HD Native systems require one or
more qualified hard drives.
Initialize your hard drives with the Disk Utility
application included with Apple System soft-
ware (Mac) or using Windows Disk Manage-
ment (Windows).
Avoid Recording to the System Drive
Recording to your system drive is not recom-
mended. Recording and playback on a system
drive may result in lower track counts and fewer
plug-ins.
Registration
Review the enclosed Registration Information
Card and follow the instructions on it to quickly
register your purchase online. This is one of the
most important steps you can take as a new user.
Registering your purchase is the only way you
can be eligible to receive:
• Information regarding technical support
• Future upgrade offers
• Limited warranty on hardware
An authorized iLok must be inserted in an
available USB port on your computer to run
Pro Tools HD.
For information about installing and au-
thorizing your Pro Tools HD software, see
the printed
Pro Tools Installation Guide in-
cluded with your Pro Tools Software Pack-
age.
If you have multiple hard drives in your sys-
tem, use DigiBase to designate the system
drive as a Playback or Transfer only drive
for optimal performance. For more informa-
tion about using DigiBase, see the Pro Tools
Reference Guide.
