level faders. This will help you prevent
overloading the ADAT’s inputs.
9 Press the Record and Play buttons on
your ADAT.
10 Begin playback of the digital sources
connected to your Pro Tools Audio Inter-
face. The audio is recorded to the ADAT.
11 To stop recording, press Stop on your
ADAT.
Configuring Sync
Synchronized transfers between Pro Tools
and ADAT have special configuration re-
quirements for clock, time code and other
sync-related connections. These configura-
tion requirements vary with the devices be-
ing used. Several example setups are pro-
vided in this chapter.
Configuring Windows
Computers for Sync
All that is required to configure
Pro Tools/ADAT sync on Windows com-
puters is that your sync peripheral be cor-
rectly connected, installed and configured
to operate on your computer (refer to your
MIDI interface or other sync peripheral’s
installation instructions). Once properly
connected, your device’s sync/MIDI ports
will be listed in Pro Tools and available as
sync sources/destinations.
Configuring Macintosh
Computers for Sync
For Pro Tools/ADAT sync on Macintosh
computers, Pro Tools requires either OMS
or FreeMIDI software. OMS, developed by
Opcode, is supplied with Pro Tools and
with all Opcode MIDI interfaces and sync
devices. FreeMIDI, by Mark of the Unicorn,
is the MIDI system included with the MTP
AV, DTP and other MoTU devices.
The following section is shows how to con-
figure OMS for a single type of sync periph-
eral (the Cooper DataSync2). Though it is
not within the scope of this User’s Guide to
provide OMS or FreeMIDI configurations
for all possible peripherals, the section that
follows provides some general guidelines
for configuring a device so that Pro Tools
can communicate with it.
For FreeMIDI conguration instructions, re-
fer to your Mark of the Unicorn/FreeMIDI doc-
umentation.
OMS Example Setup
(Macintosh only)
If you are using Macintosh with a MIDI in-
terface, BRC, JL Cooper DataSync2, or an
Opcode Studio 64XTC, you must configure
these devices in OMS so that they can com-
municate properly with Pro Tools.
OMS should have been installed on your
computer as part of the standard Pro Tools
installation. If this is not the case, you will
need to install OMS using your Pro Tools
Installer CD-ROM. For detailed instruc-
tions on how to install and configure OMS,
refer to the Pro Tools System Installation
Guide.
If you are not using a MIDI interface, BRC,
or synchronization peripheral with your
Pro Tools/ADAT system, you can skip this
section.
