How do I create an audible click track in Pro Tools LE for Mac?
For OS9 users:
In order to produce a click, ProTools can use a sound module with proper configuration of the OMS Setup
application. You have the ability to route the click from ProTools LE to trigger any device provided it has been
defined in OMS. If you do not have any external sound modules, you still have the option to use the QuickTime
Musical Instruments software synthesizer. This is a General MIDI, multitimbral sound module which is included with
the Macintosh Operating System. In order to take advantage of this "virtual synthesizer," you need to enable its
operation through OMS.
Launch the OMS setup application.
In the studio setup window, double click the QuickTime Musical Instrument icon and click the radio button next to
the word "on". Click "Use Rock Drum Kit" checkbox .
Click the "OK" button, choose "save" from the file menu and quit OMS Setup.
In ProTools LE, select Click Options from the MIDI pull-down menu or double click on either the countoff or
metronome button in the transport MIDI controls window.
Click and hold on the "Output" pop-up menu and select your destination device and channel. If using a General
MIDI compatible synthesizer (such as QuickTime Musical Instruments) use channel 10, for this is the channel that
contains all drum and non-pitched percussion sounds.
Select a note for the accented and unaccented beats via your MIDI controller or by typing in a note name with the
Macintosh keyboard.
Once you have configured the parameters of the Click options window to your liking, enable the click by choosing
"click" in the MIDI pull-down menu or highlighting the metronome button in the MIDI controls transport window.
If using QuickTime Musical Instruments, the sound generated will be outputted via the Macintosh Sound Manager (i.
e. the internal speaker). However, in order to route this signal elsewhere in your studio (such as a channel on a
mixer) you need to connect a cable from the stereo miniplug (1/8") jack located on the rear of the Computer
marked with speaker icon.
If you want to route the audio thru the 001 outputs please refer to #8 of the FAQ for instructions on monitoring an
Aux input.
For OSX users:
Pro Tools LE v.6.0 and higher includes the RTAS Click Plug-In. Create an audio track. Instanciate the Click Plug-In
on an insert. Hit Play.

On my Digi 001, how do I change the SPDIF format from working with my DAT coaxial connection to
working with a Mini Disc optical connection? What is SPDIF mirroring?
To change the SPDIF format of a session, choose Setups > Playback Engine. In order for us to change I/O labels, a
session cannot be opened so when you click yes to proceed your session is automatically saved and closed and after
you click done it will reopen your session.
You can only use one set of SPDIF ports at a time so if you want to use the coxial SPDIF connection for your Dat
machine then you need to set the Optical Format to Adat in the Setups > Playback Engine > Other Options. If you
are trying to use a Mini Disc with optical SPDIF that you need to set the Optical Format to SPDIF in the Setups >
Playback Engine > Other Options.
