With the release of Pro Tools 5.3 for the HD system, have there been any changes made to the Pro Tools
Mixer?
1. The dither code was rewritten. Now every dither source is uncorrelated. What this mainly means to users is when
multiple dither sources (e.g. from busses) are mixed together, the dither noise floor won't be as high. Summing two
correlated dither sources results in a 6dB increase in noise floor, where as summing two uncorrelated dither sources
results in a 3dB increase.
2. The master fader code was rewritten in the stereo mixer to be more inline with the surround mixer, and to have
slightly better truncation error performance.
3. The mixer summing bus headroom was increased from 30dB to 48dB.

Are DigiLink Cables included with an HD1, HD2, or HD 3 system? Are DigiLink Cables included with a
192 I/O or 96 I/O?
Each HD core system (HD1, HD2, or HD3 ) comes with one 12' DigiLink cable, for the purpose of connecting a 192 I/
O or 96 I/O to the HD Core Card. Each 192 I/O or 96 I/O comes with a 1.5' DigiLink cable, intended for chaining a
second 192 I/O or 96 I/O to its Expansion Port. Given this, if you have three, five, or seven HD I/Os, you most
likely will want to purchase an additional one, two, or three 12' (or longer) DigiLink cables respectively, to connect
to HD Process Cards.

Can I use SampleCell II / SampleCell II Plus cards with Pro Tools|HD?
Direct TDM connection with SampleCell II / SampleCell II Plus is not possible on Pro Tools|HD systems. You can still
install SampleCell II / SampleCell II Plus cards in Pro Tools|HD systems, but you will need to use the analog outs of
the SampleCell cards. If you intend to use SampleCell cards with your Pro Tools|HD system, you will also need to
install the DigiSystem INIT that was included on your Pro Tools|HD installer CD.
