Pro-Tools LE can also be affected by other software and hardware drivers installed on your computer. For best
possible performance, it is recommended that you:
* Avoid running other Windows programs at the same time as Pro Tools LE.
* Turn off any software utilities that run in the background, such as calendars and virus protection.
* Disable Windows System sounds. In the Sound Control Panel set the Sound Scheme to No Sounds.

Do I need a SCSI drive for optimal performance with Pro Tools Free for PC?
You will achieve similar results with qualified SCSI and ATA/IDE drives. The only noticeable performance difference
might be a slight delay upon playback or recording in large sessions when using an ATA/IDE drive. SCSI is not a
requirement with the Pro Tools Free. However, if you are working in multiple studios an external SCSI drive allows
easy portability to other Pro-Tools Windows 98 SE systems. If you are thinking about purchasing a SCSI controller
for playback and recording with Pro Tools Free, be advised that the ADAPTEC AVA -2906 SCSI controller card is the
only supported model for Pro Tools Free Windows 98 SE Systems. We can not qualify the performance of other
SCSI controller cards at this time. Review the Pro Tools Free compatibility document available at Digidesign.com for
more information.

Are Pro Tools Free for Windows 98 SE sessions transferable to Pro Tools Free for Macintosh?
On the Windows platform, you can bring your Windows 98 SE Pro Tools Free or Pro-Tools LE sessions to a Windows
NT TDM system, and bring Windows NT TDM sessions back to Windows 98 SE Pro Tools Free or Pro-Tools LE. The
same integration Between Pro Tools Free/LE/TDM is also possible on the Macintosh Platform. True cross platform
support for Macintosh and Windows 98 SE Pro-Tools LE is currently unsupported. We hope to include this feature in
a future release.

Sound Blaster Problems
Should also be used only at a 48kHz sample rate. Recent Sound Blaster cards drift about 490 samples for 60
seconds of playback at 44.1. Buffer Size should be set at 8k (the highest setting) for best results.
Diamond Monster MX400
The Diamond Monster MX400 exhibits a sample clock drift phenomenon similar to that of the Sound Blaster Live -
except much worse. The Monster drifts ~5987 samples - nearly 136 milliseconds for every 60 seconds of playback.
Should also be used only at a sample rate of 48kHz. Only the highest hardware buffer size will work.
