Password authentication
By default, Digi Connect Family devices have password authentication enabled. That means when
a login prompt is displayed when accessing the device by opening the web interface or issuing a
telnet command.
Disable password authentication
Password authentication can be disabled as needed.
In the web interface:
1 On the Main menu, click Users.
2 On the Users Configuration page, check the Enable password authentication check box.
3 Click Apply.
From the command line:
Issue a newpass command with a zero-length password.
Change the password for administrative user
To increase security, change the password for the administrative user from its default. By default,
the administrative username is root.
Note
Record the new password. If the changed password is lost, the Digi device must be
reset to the default firmware settings.
In Digi devices with a single-user model, changing the root password also changes the password
for Advanced Digi Discovery Protocol (ADDP). In Digi devices with the multi-user model,
changing the root password has no effect on ADDP. To change the ADDP password, enter
newpass name=addp from the command line.
In the web interface:
1 On the Main menu, click Users.
2 On the Users Configuration page, click root.
3 Enter the new password in the New Password and Confirm Password edit boxes. The
password can be from 4 through 16 characters long and is case-sensitive. Click Apply.
4 A logoff is forced immediately. Log in to the web interface using the new values.
From the command line:
Issue the newpass command.
