Pre-Season Maintenance
Pad Frames
Remove pad frames from cooler and place on flat surface.
Remove old cooler pads and thoroughly clean all
mineral deposits and loose debris from frames.
Paint metal pad frames (do not paint plastic pad frames) with
high quality, rust resistant spray paint.
Bearings
Rotate blower pulley and shaft by hand. Both should
rotate freely. Bearing itself does not rotate.
If blower pulley rotates but blower shaft does not, check
tightness of blower pulley set screw. If blower shaft does not
rotate freely, replace blower bearings.
Where applicable, fill bearing oil cup with high grade,
non-detergent oil (do not use 3-in-1 oil).
Water Pan/Reservoir
Remove loose debris and mineral deposits. Avoid damaging
original paint.
Rinse with water, and re-coat with undercoating where metal
is exposed. Do not coat plastic cooler reservoirs.
V-Belt
Inspect V-belt for cracks or excessive wear. Replace if
cracked or worn.
Check belt for proper tension.
Pumps
If possible, unsnap and remove pump baseplate. Remove
any debris from pump inlet.
Rotate pump impeller by hand. Replace pump if pump shaft
is frozen, does not freely rotate or if pump stops and starts
during operation.
Cooler Pads
Replace old aspen pads.
Dura-Cool™ pads may be rinsed with garden hose or
replaced.
Make sure new pads cover entire pad frame opening so no
outside air passes through holes or voids.
Overflow Standpipe
If necessary, remove nut and drain bushing to examine
gasket. Replace gasket if brittle or cracked.
Float Valve
Inspect float valve to make sure it shuts off completely when
float is lifted up. Replace float valve if it does not shut off
completely.
Where needed, adjust water shut off level of float valve. Set
water level to approximately 1/2” below overflow standpipe.
Blower & Motor Pulleys
Inspect blower pulley and motor pulley for wear. Replace if
either is bent or deformed.
Check alignment of blower pulley and motor pulley. Motor
pulley should be in alignment with blower pulley. Correct
misalignment by adjusting position of motor pulley.
Water Supply Line
Inspect water supply line. Replace if cracked.
Motor
Rotate motor pulley by hand. If pulley rotates but motor shaft
does not, check tightness of motor pulley set screw. If motor
shaft is frozen or does not rotate easily, replace motor.
Inspect motor for excessive end-play. Push and pull on motor
pulley. Some end-play is normal. If shaft end-play exceeds
1/16”, replace motor.
Water Distributor (Spider) Tubes
Removes mineral build-up in tubes so water flow is not
restricted.
Blower Shaft
Inspect blower shaft for excessive end-play. Push and pull on
blower pulley. Some end-play is normal. If shaft movement
exceeds 1/16”, adjust shaft collar to reduce movement.
Inspect blower shaft for straightness. Spin blower pulley by
hand to check for blower pulley wobble. If pulley wobble
exceeds 1/16”, replace blower shaft. Wobble can cause
excessive noise and vibration.

Cooler Cover
Water
Turn OFF water source to cooler. Drain cooler water reservoir. To protect shingles, avoid
draining cooler onto roof.
Drain all water out of cooler water supply line to prevent freeze damage.
Scale/Mineral Build-Up
Control mineral build-up with a combination of purge pump
or a bleed-off line), scale inhibitor or in-line water conditioner.
Use a Cooler Cleaner to control odor and scale build-up.
Aspen pads need replacement at least once a season.
Dura-Cool™ pads need to be cleaned at least once a season.
Always drain cooler reservoir when pads are replaced
or cleaned.

Cooler Cleaner
Recommended Maintenance Items
Power-Clean® Purge Pump
Works alongside the regular cooler pump to flush old
water out of the cooler every 8 hours of cooler operation.
Helps to prolong life of cooler pads.
Anode Kit
Works to control rust and corrosion in bottom pan of
metal coolers.
In-Line Scale Eliminator Cartridge
Installs in the water line and conditions the water to
control scale and mineral build-up.
Cooler Cleaner
Inhibits odor and scale build-up inside cooler. Fill reservoir
with clean water; add Cooler Cleaner and turn on “pump
only” to rinse through cooler pads for 20-30 minutes to
help dissolve scale and mineral build-up. Then drain
cooler and refill with fresh water.
Heavy Duty D-Scale™ Treatment
Extra strength formula to treat cooler pads in areas where
water is high in minerals.
Fresh Air™ & Cooler Tab™
Place in water reservoir of cooler. Contains a time-
release formula for neutralizing odors.
Cooler Coating
Fast drying asphalt-based coating for sealing the bottom
pan of cooler to protect the metal against rust.
UP-DUX™ Ceiling-To-Attic Vents
Exhausts evaporative cooler air into attic. Reduces attic
heat and increases cooler efficiency. No need to leave
home windows or doors open when cooler is running.
