The serial ports are RS232 asynchronous communication ports with 16C550A-
compatible UARTs that can be used with modems, serial printers, remote display
terminals,andotherserialdevices.
Connecting an External Serial Port
YourCOMportmaycomemountedonacard-edgebracket.Installthecard-edge
bracketto an available slot at the rear of the system chassis then insert the se-
rialportcabletotheCOM3orCOM4connector.Makesurethecoloredstripeon
theribboncableisalignedwithpin1oftheCOMconnector.
BIOS Setting
Congure the serial ports in the Integrated Peripheralssubmenu (“Super IO De-
vice”section)oftheBIOS.Refertochapter3formoreinformation.
