The BIOS will automatically set the system according to your
hard disk drive’s timing.
You can select a mode that matches your hard disk drive’s
timing.

Infra Red (IR) Function
The 586STE system board supports IrDA function for wireless connec-
tivity between your computer and peripheral devices. To use the IrDA
function, follow the steps below.
1. Connect your IrDA cable to connector J2 of the 586STE system
board. Refer to page 12 for the location of connector J2.
2. Set “Infra Red (IR) Function” to the type of IrDA standard supported
by your IrDA peripheral/device.
You may not use IrDA (J2) and the COM 2 serial port (J3) at the same
time. If you are using the COM 2 serial port, set “Infra Red (IR) Func-
tion” to Standard.
The system will automatically select an I/O address for the
onboard serial port 1 and serial port 2.
Allows you to manually select COM1, COM2, COM3, or
COM4 for the onboard serial port 1 and serial port 2.
Disables the onboard serial port 1 and/or serial port 2.
