6. Remove the hex screws (g) flange lock nuts (h) securing the front deck control
rods (i) to the deck. See Figure 31.

7. Turn front wheels as if to make a pivot turn.
8. Shift the deck toward the right side of the mower and remove.
9. Reverse STEPS 1 - 8 to install the PTO belt and deck.
REPLACING THE PTO BELT
1. Remove the PTO belt (a) from the deck as instructed in STEPS 1 - 3 in
Removing/Installing The Deck on page 25.

2. Route the new PTO belt (a) around the PTO clutch (b) and PTO pulleys (c) as
shown in Figure 32.
3. After routing the belt around the PTO pulleys, use a 1⁄2” (12.7 mm) drive in
the idler pulley bracket (d) and turn towards the right of the mower to finish
routing the belt around the idler pulley (e).
REPLACING THE DECK BELT 
1. Set the parking brake. Remove ignition key and both spark plug caps.
2. Remove the PTO belt from the deck as instructed in STEPS 1 - 3 in Removing/
Installing The Deck on page 25.
3. Remove the wing knobs (a) from the carriage screws (b) securing the belt
covers (c) to the deck. Remove the deck covers. See Figure 33.

NOTE: Speed nuts should hold the carriage screws and tab bolt in place, if not
re-install.
4. Using a 1⁄2” (12.7 mm) drive insert the end into the 1⁄2” (12.7 mm) square
opening in the deck idler assembly (d) and rotate the deck idler assembly
clockwise. See Figure 34.
5. While holding the deck idler assembly, loosen the deck belt from the idler
pulley (e) and slide the belt away from the spindle pulleys (f).

WARNING
Avoid pinching injuries. Never place your fingers on the idler spring or
between the belt and a pulley while removing the belt.
6. Route the new belt around the idler pulley and the spindle pulleys as shown in
Figure 34.
7. Using the wing knobs (a) and carriage screws (b), secure the belt covers (c) to
the deck See Figure 33.
8. Instal the PTO belt from the deck as instructed in STEPS 1 - 3 in Removing/
Installing The Deck on page 25.
9. Remove the wing knobs (a) from the carriage screws (b) securing the belt
covers (c) to the deck. Remove the deck covers. See Figure 33.
10. Then reinstall the deck and PTO belt. Refer to Removing/Installing The Deck on
page 25.
