Keep battery clean and dry.
Undo dirty clamps.
Clean terminal posts (+ and -) and clamps of
battery, and grease with acid-free and acid-
resistant grease.
When reassembling, ensure that clamps make
good contact. Tighten clamp bolts hand-tight.
Remove sealing caps 1.
If testers 2 are present:
Electrolyte level should reach base of these.
Without testers:
Electrolyte level should be 10-15 mm above top
of plates.
If necessary, top up with distilled water.
Screw sealing caps back in.
Measure electrolyte density of individual cells
with commercial hydrometer.
Hydrometer reading (see table on following page)
indicates batterys state of charge.
During measurement, temperature of electrolyte
should preferably be +20°C.
